Henry Snell Gamley was born in Logie-Pert in 1865. He worked as a sculptor, and was based in Edinburgh, where he had studied under David Watson Stevenson.

The St Andrew above the Freemason's Hall in George Street and the Heart of Midlothian War Memorial at Haymarket are his two most public works in Edinburgh.

He worked with John Kinross on the Hearts War memorial. He also worked with him on the Cupar War memorial; the design of the Montrose War memorial and the war memorial for Morningide United Free Church (the building is now the Churchill Theatre and Mornisgide UF memorial is in Mornigside Parish Church, the former Cluny Church).
