Inverbevie - The Hercules Linton Memorial
Location: On east side of A92 just on south side of bridge.
Description: Memorial to the ship-builder Hercules Linton responsible for the design of the famous clipper The Cutty Sark. The memorial is based on the famous witch which featured in the Burns poem 'Tam O'Shanter' and the figurehead of the clipper named after her.
hercules Linton is not the only local connection with the legendery clipper. The poet Robert Burns father, William Burness, came from Kincardinshire, and as everyone in the North East knows the Aberdeen Line clipper 'Thermopylae' was the superior vessel to her arch rival, the more famous 'Cutty Sark'.
Not sure what happened here. As fare as I am aware the original memorial was a bronze sculpture by the Dundee based Scottish artist Scott Sutherland (see below), and this memorial is a replacement.
