The Monument to James Hogg, 'The Ettrick Shepherd'
It never occured to me before but there seems to be a tradition of painting statues in a light grey paint which is peculiar to the Borders. I don't know what the origin is of this practice but it gives Borders monuments a very distinctive look.

Location: The monument is sited among a stand of conifers overlooking the A708 St. Mary's Loch, just east of the Tea Rooms and junction to Tibbie Shiel's Inn.

Sculptor: The Borders sculptor Andrew Currie (1813 – 1891)
