This monument is in the Care of the City Council and here is what it says on their website
Dugald Stewart Monument
This Classical style monument was designed by the noted architect William Henry Playfair to commemorate Dugald Stewart (1753-1828), one of the great Scottish Enlightenment thinkers. Stewart was Professor of Moral Philosophy at Edinburgh University and a leading figure in the Scottish school of Common Sense Philosophy along with his teacher at Glasgow University, Thomas Reid, a dominant influence in the formation of Stewart’s ideas.
Stewart wrote "Elements of Philosophy of the Human Mind" as well as biographies of Adam Smith, William Robertson and Thomas Reid. _________________ Scottish War Memorials Project
