From a Kelvingrove website

http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/Parks_Outdoors/HeritageTrails/KelvingrovePark/kelvingroveparkheritagetrail912.htm

A semi-abstract stick-figure composition by Benno Schotz (1891 – 1984) commissioned by Glasgow Tree Lovers Society and Glasgow Art Gallery and Museums Association. A late work by this prominent Glasgow sculptor, best known for his modelled portraits.

The Sculpture can be appreciated in the context of further examples of Schotz’s work on display in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.

This composition forms part of the memorial garden to Tom John Honeyman who was a great supporter of Schotz.

And mentioned above, The Glasgow Tree Lovers Society

http://gtls33.org/history.htm

2008 marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of this Society. Back in 1932 correspondence in the 'Glasgow Herald', about the cutting down of trees in University Avenue by the city authorities, drew together people who wanted to make Glasgow more beautiful. They collaborated with the Civic Society as their Tree Planting Committee.

Mrs Lois Jarvis wrote to the 'Glasgow Herald' suggesting that the centenary of Sir Walter Scott's death in 1832 might be celebrated by planting the newly laid out Anniesland/Knightswood Boulevard with trees. Seven original members met in a drawing room in Claremont Terrace in 1933 in order to establish the Society, with the aim of promoting beauty in the city by the planting and preservation of trees, flowering plants and shrubs, where appropriate. By autumn 1933 the Society had over 300 members.

The Society's first big work, the planting of the central verge of the Knightswood Boulevard, led to the planting by Glasgow Corporation, within the city boundary, of the Glasgow/Edinburgh road verges, and then ultimately to the landscaping of the whole of the A8 between Scotland's two major cities.
