Glamis No2 Pictish stone
http://canmore.rcahms.gov.uk/en/site/32067/details/glamis/
The stone dates from the 8th century and now stands in the garden of the former manse. Although the house is private the garden is open to visitors.
The west face shows an elaborately carved cross with images and symbols in each quarter.
Axe weilding warriors and a cauldron with legs, botton left
A dog like beast, top left
triple disc symbol and deer head, bottom right
(top right is apparently a centaur but lichen has covered him and it wasn't worth posting the photo)
The East face of the stone is older and has 3 symbols, a salmon, a disc design / mirror and a snake
Well worth a visit |
