Ship on a Globe
Location: Merchants House of Glasgow, George Square
OS ref: NS 590 655
Perched high above George Square and overlooking Central Station is the corner tower of the Merchants House of Glasgow.
It was built in 1877 and in 1908 extra storeys were added including the tower with a domed roof and at the top was added a finial based on the coat of arms of the Merchants House, a tall ship on a globe.
Given the date of 1908 it may be a windjammer on the globe but the raked bow makes me think it's based on a clipper _________________ Scottish War Memorials Project
