This large memorial cairn stands on a hill overlooking the Arnish Fabrication Yard and the town of Stornoway. It can be accessed from the single-track road that leads from the A859 Stornoway to Tarbert road to Arnish and requires a short but steep climb up a grassy hill.
Kildun Cottage, referred to on the plaque, no longer exists. It was demolished, together with the hill it stood on, at the time the Fabrication Yard was constructed in 1975.
