Known locally as ‘Kelly’s Cats’ these cast iron leopard finials are on Union Street Bridge. They were actually designed by Sidney Boyes, a master at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen and not by Aberdeen architect William Kelly.
Kelly was responsible for bronze panels on the bridge which was built in 1908. Boyes cats were cast by William Wilson and erected on the bridge in 1910.

Further widening and the addition of shops in 1964 led to the removal of the southern parapet, which can now be found in Duthie Park. During the summer of 2005, a hundred replicas of the famous Kelly's Cats, which adorn the railings of Union Bridge, Aberdeen were given to artists to decorate. These were on display around the city, before being auctioned off for the Catwalk charity project. _________________ Scottish War Memorials Project
