A bronze bust of Sir Walter Scott by Galashiels sculptor Thomas J. Clapperton. It was commissioned in 1932 for the centenary of his death and commemorates his involvement with Galashiels
On the granite plinth there is a bronze panel depicting a bard.
The carving on the plinth says "O Great and Gallant Scott"
On the surrounding wall is the inscription from two lines in the introduction to The Lay of the Last Minstrel. "The last of all the bards was he, who sung of border chivalry"
My other image of the wall hasn't ben downloaded to Photobucket yet
There used to be benches where the flower beds are now.
