...a mission was begun in India in 1822 by the Scottish Missionary Society. The first missionary was the Rev. Donald Mitchell, a son of the manse, who had been converted to Christ when a lieutenant in the Company’s army at Surat.
Less than a year of missionary service was granted him, and he lies buried in an obscure village at the foot of the Western Ghats, but from that lonely grave the tide of Scottish Missions has spread far and wide over India. _________________ Scottish War Memorials Project
