Executed by sculptor Alexander Carrick in 1939 for the former Caledonian Insurance company building (the last time I visited it was the G.R.E. Building). The building was based on a Swedish design which caused some controversy in the 1930's with its location in the heart of Edinburgh's Georgian New Town. Carrick, working with his former student George Mancini at Mancini's Edinburgh forge, used a bronze with an unusual green patina for the commission.
The female figure of 'Security' seems to have been based on Carrick's Diploma work 'Felicity'.

And a couple more pictures of these figures.
The inside of this buidling has mostly been refurbished for modern needs however at least one conference room retains the original wood panelling and the stairwell is original too with an art deco bannister and stained glass windows. I'm afraid I have no photographs of the interior.

The door of this building is impressive too. It seems to have been a 1930's thing to have carvings on the door.
I'm sure you could guess what the company who built this building did from the carvings. I like the little biplane in the top right corner and it looks like the Salisbury Crags in the top left corner.
