2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys) War Memorial
Location: Princess Street, opposite Frederick Street junction
OS Ref: NT 251 738
Sculptor: William Birnie Rhind
I have never been able to get any good photographs of this memorial so i'd appreciate it if anyone can provide some.
This memorial is in the care of the City Council and this is from their website:
The Royal Scots Greys War Memorial
An equestrian bronze, Royal Scots Greys trooper in uniform with sword and rifle statue by William Birnie Rhind (1853-1933) on a rusticated Purdovan (Northumbrian) sandstone plinth. It was unveiled by the Earl of Rosebery on the 16 November 1906.
The main plaque states IN MEMORY OF OFFICERS, NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE ROYAL SCOTS GREYS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE BOER WAR 1899 1902
The original inscription was incised into the stone which weathered badly and was replaced by bronze plaques to commemorate the fallen in the two World Wars. _________________ Scottish War Memorials Project
