The Vigil for the Scottish Parliament Cairn
Location: The Southeast corner of Calton Hill. Overlooking former Royal High School and Holyrood
OS Ref: NT 263 741
There are several inscriptions on various stones on this cairn. I can post one now and I will post the others when I get a chance.
Jane Haining Memorial Stone, A stone from Auschwitz
The text of the Haining plaque has not turned out that well on this photobucket image.
It reads
The Stone from Auschwitz
is in memory of
JANE HAINING
Scottish Missionary and all
others who died in the death camp

The metalwork on top of the cairn is the brazier which had been used outside the Vigil for a Scottish Parliament portacabin which sat opposite the Scottish Office building on Calton Hill. The vigil lasted for 1980 days from April 1992 - after the Conservatives were returned to power in the General Election, until 11th September 1997, the day Scotland voted for Devolution.
