Located on the Queens Way, NE of Newton Stewart at OS Map Ref NX488719. This is a well known monument to Alexander Murray. Son of a local shepherd, he became projessor of oriental languages at Edinburgh University. A fascinating tale of a self-taught man who achieved much before dying at the early age of 37.
