This memorial stands on a prominent position along the A866 Stornoway to Point road, near the Eye Cemetery and Eye Church. It is located at the eastern end of the Braighe causeway. Access is signposted for the Eye Church (Eaglais na h-Aoidhe).
The cairn commemorates the battle between landraiders and the authorities at Aignish Farm in January 1888. Like the cairns at Gress, Coll and Balallan, this memorial refers to the struggle over land, which is prominent in the history of the last two centuries in Lewis. |
